20 Feet From Stardom in 200 Words or Less

.
I'm sure here at the outset I'm not going to have a whole lot to say on 20 Feet From Stardom, which is basically a talking (that is singing) head documentary just done really well, but I'm not at all surprised it's the most successful doc of the year - it's a crowd-pleaser filled with unsung (ha see what I did there) heroes getting their due that puts a great big smile on your face from start to finish. What impressed me the most though was the film's marrow deep love for musicianship, which I think is probably its biggest asset (well besides THOSE VOICES, natch) - for the hard work, the dedication, the soul that a talent like theirs is interwoven with. That the sound, the harmony, the music is really reward enough in the end, but there's a heartening steadfastness that if you build it, well somebody will eventually come around, and then we can all make spectacular sounds together. Its generosity of spirit is totally invigorating - this movie hums.
