Xavier Dolan Eight Times

.
I liked Xavier Dolan's first two movies a lot, but after seeing him in person earlier this year at MoMA and being having my pants charmed off by him (unfortunately not literally), he's stepped up in my estimations even more. Word out of Venice on his new movie Tom at the Farm sounds really good too; it's apparently his take on a Hitcockian-type thriller, obviously right up my alley.

Sadly it's not playing the New York fest, so who knows when I'll see it. Come back, Xavier! I need my pants charmed off again (this time literally).

After the jump you'll find five more pictures, including one that is very very much NSFW that I need you guys to tell me is real, and not doctored. He did an interview with Butt Magazine awhile back which the first shot is definitely from, but I can't find out where or how the second wonderfully NSFW one showed up (it was making the rounds on Tumblr this weekend; always an impossible place to source things from). Hit the jump for it...

Whaddya think? Is it real? He's shown his boy business off in his movies before, it's not like he's shy or anything. I am choosing to believe it's real, but who knows, photo-shop's gotten so damned good. Anyway here's a couple more recent pics...

He looks like every other self important hipster I've ever seen. What am I not getting in his 'appeal'?

with doctored photos like that sometimes its pretty easy to find the original one

but it seems this one is quite legit, so yay!

It's legit! It was included in the photography from an interview he did with Butt Magazine.

I am from Montréal and surely Xavier Dolan has some «movie talent» but he is too much «self centered» and the king of young man thant want to look like a «revolutionary» of his time and society.
Last year, he was part of the student contestation against the rise of university fees....

That's when he got off my admiration..

You must know that here, in Province of Québec, WE, taxe payers, are paying 83$ of those fees..
Students here pay only 17% of those and pay the cheaper fees in North America: $ 3000/ year..

SO, for many people here, he is a spoiled kid...
More, his movies are subsidized by PUBLIC money too..

So, yes, he has some talent BUT....

I made almost the same comments on a French gay site that was «adoring» his «sexy look» without knowing our «local view» of him...

Well, he's always more about style than substance to me. I still think "I Killed My Mother" is his best work. However, it would be even better if he didn't star in that role. To me, as someone from an Asian culture, I thought the son is a brat.

"Heartbeats" was a frustrating experience for me. Definitely showed his narcissistic side. However, he's so so young, that he has time on his side. I'm looking forward to watching "Laurence Anyways" and his new film.

As a Canadian, I am irritated that X is more well known then Villeneuve, who has done superb work with "Polytechnique" and "Incendies".

I agree with LARS and some critics of his latest film just said the same thing..

He should not act in his own films...

I am also desapointed that Villeneuve is not as popular as Xavier D. because Villeneuve's movies are more «profond» and more universal...

Cheers.

Well I love to see him on screen, and think he is quite a good actor, considering that he is also directing and doing other stuff at the same time. And I wonder if you guys have seen his films on the big screen like I have, because one thing is to see them on a tv/dvd, and another on a huge screen. I'm telling you, Heartbeats is SUBLIME!!!!! Lovely film, lovely performances, lovely soundtrack. I saw the film 3 times in the cinema..And Laurence Anyways was good, too long, but good, and Melvil Poupaud delivered, but I kind of missed seeing Dolan up there, performing in front of the camera. I realised that I like his films mainly because he's the protagonist. He has screen charisma imo.

So I will definitely be queuing up to see Tom at the Farm when it finally comes out, and I'm lucky that in London at least there will be ONE cinema that will show it. Hopefully it will make its way to the London Film Festival.

As for the photo....well, is it so surprising? Maybe I'm just used to living in Europe where we don't get fazed out by seeing peoples' private parts as much, and specially on film! But yeah, it's probably real....not that impressive really! Ha! No wonder he can't get a boyfriend! Ha!

By the way, I'm a straight woman, in case you were wondering.

Oh and I forgot to say OFCOURSE HE SHOULD ACT IN HIS OWN FILMS!!!! It's his films, he can do whatever he likes in them!!! In fact, that's why he started directing films, so he could do the kind of roles he was interested in!!!! I believe his first love is acting, and the directing is a second love.

jiEl - Villeneuve's films are 'more profound and universal'? Well he is much older, isn't he? Say 20 years older? Anyway, who says all directors have to be profound and universal? Was Hitchcock profound and universal? Don't get me wrong, I really liked Incendies, but I also like there to be diversity in film, all kind of directors with all kind of visions. And why don't you think Laurence Anyways was profound and universal? I think the exploration of love and gender identy is pretty profound and universal, isn't it? Dolan's first films are very personal and autobiographical.....by the time he's in his 40s like Villeneuve, or even 30s, considering he's making one film per year, I'm sure his films will be exploring more 'profound and universal' themes. And I hate the Queer Cinema tag that is attached to him, I don't see his films as sexually orientated, but it seems many people want to put that logo on him....many critics are homophobic imo, and not just that, but sexist. They are okay with seeing tits left right and centre, and when a 'gay' director doesn't show them that, they assign him to the Queer Cinema bin.

I think Xavier gave a superb performance in the movie 'Elephant Song'. That was my 'introduction' to him, as it was the first time I'd ever seen him before. Now I want to watch every movie he's ever starred in. Phenomenal actor, in my humble opinion.
