I Am Link

.
--- Bond Not Bond - I don't recall seeing an official "Eff This!" announcement but I think that Jane Eyre director Cary Fukunaga making a new movie out of Stephen King's It must be off the table now that's he announced forward momentum on not just one new project, but two. Yesterday we heard he's going to make a movie about war-torn West Africa with Idris Elba, and today we hear he's attaching himself to Noble Assassin, the true-life story of, and I quote, "French aristocrat-turned-anti-Nazi-Saboteur Robert de la Rochefoucauld, who joined the British Special Operations Executive and was trained in every manner of dark arts before being sent back to France to help organize the resistance, blowing up train stations and munitions factories, enduring months of torture and escaping his own execution." Livin la vida loca, dude.

--- Cumber Ditch - One fourth of Guillermo Del Toro's Crimson Peak ensemble has split - Benedict Cumberbatch has dropped out of the film, for no specific reason although THR speculates it's just because he's so damned busy. The haunted love story's not set to shoot until January so GDT's got plenty of time to find a replacement. The other three stars are Charlie Hunnam, Mia Wasikowska, and Jessica Chastain, so the replacement best bring their hot game.

--- Blood Wings - Reading Final Girl's review of the second Pumpkinhead movie is practically worth it for the post's title alone, which keeps making me chuckle - I know I saw this movie though, and I have zero recollection of it other than a whole lot of shots of the Pumpkinhead puppet swaying around in the night.

--- Pocket Rocket - Marvel apparently, according to Latino Review, wants Bradley Cooper of all people to voice the talking raccoon named Rocket in their Guardians of the Galaxy movie. I mean I guess I can summon up what BC's voice sounds like if I try; I don't know that it's all that distinctive. Maybe that's what they're going for.

--- Wernham Hogg - I swear I've heard this before, but who knows with my swiss-riddled brain - Ricky Gervais says he wants to bring his original Office character David Brent back, but for a movie. I mean the only reason I'm even writing about Ricky Gervais right now is my love for the original Office, but I do feel like its time has passed. It ended so perfectly, ya know?

--- Breaking Down Bad - I actually don't know anything at all about the 1952 movie The Bad and the Beautiful, I've never seen it nor have I ever read anything about it, so I'm looking forward to plunging into everybody's takes on it for this week's "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" over at The Film Experience. And hey maybe some time I'll actually watch it!

It's a good film, I've never found it great but it's beautifully shot and does contain Lana Turner's best performance. Also an Oscar winning turn from Gloria Grahame that's a bit of a head scratcher. She makes the most of what is a glorified bit but it's not award worthy and probably cost her a nom and possibly the award the next year for her brilliant work in The Big Heat.

Realized I didn't say I was referring to The Bad and the Beautiful!

Don't miss Lana Turner's hysterical night time car drive. I think she might have been nominated for that scene alone. The whole thing is shot in a studio, but as a kid when I saw the film it made a huge impression on me. Years later I happen to meet Lana, asked her to sign my Peyton Place soundtrack LP,(which she did) and told her the car scene was possibly my favorite scene of all her films. She told me she really had no recollection of even filming it. Ah...Lana.
