I want to wish Steven Soderbergh a happy 50th birthday here today because I just love him to pieces, but I don't want to wish him a happy birthday today because it's really starting to seem genuine, his claim that he's taking the opportunity of this mid-century mark to retire from film-making, and that is awful, awful, awful. Don't leave us, Steven! He's been on such an incredible streak these past few years - just invigorating, doesn't give a fuck movie-making of the highest caliber. In a couple of weeks we'll get Side Effects, his sexy pharmaceutical thriller with Rooney Mara and his current lunk-muse Channing Tatum, and then later this year we'll get his Liberace bio-pic, and that is apparently that? No!!! It makes me so sad. Anyway that aside, I've really got to rewatch The Informant! some time soon. Loooove it.
