RPattz of Arabia

.
Well I suppose since Peter O'Toole literally just retired we needed somebody to step in and take his place, and who better than the sparkly vamp himself? Aww that was opportunistic sarcasm where it's undeserved - I really have nothing against Robert Pattinson, I kinda like him. I just gave him and Cosmopolis a good review earlier today for god's sake - I should at least try some superficial coherence once in awhile.

Ahem. let's start over. Hey guys Robert Pattinson is going to play T.E. Lawrence, aka Lawrence of Arabia, in a movie... for Werner fucking Herzog. That is right, he is going from David fucking Cronenberg straight to Werner fucking Herzog. And he's playing queer again, at that!  I don't wanna hear another word about him. He's good in my book. Via Variety:

"Just days before "Cosmopolis" opens in limited release, star Robert Pattinson has joined the cast of Werner Herzog's indie "Queen of the Desert," which will star Naomi Watts as English writer Gertrude Bell.

Pic will chronicle Bell's life as a writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political attache for the British Empire. One of the first women to graduate from Oxford at the turn of the 20th century, she traveled through the Middle East, defining the borders of Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Pattinson is attached to play T.E. Lawrence, a British Army officer whose writing earned him international fame as Lawrence of Arabia, on whom David Lean's classic 1962 epic is based. Lawrence was a good friend to Bell over the years, as the duo helped establish the Hashemite dynasties in Jordan and Iraq."

We wrote about this movie awhile back - both Herzog and Ridley Scott were angling to make a movie about this woman. It looks like Werner's winning the race while Scott makes a fourth version of Blade Runner or whatever.

So let's hope Herzog let's some Arabian really stick it to Robert - that will widen his range, so to speak. (sorry - I couldn't help it). I am not convinced this guy will ever be a Peter O'Toole but I also like him and find him interesting on screen. Looking forward to COSMOPOLIS (especially after your review). Samantha Morton needs to work more!!!
