In an interview with producer Frank Marshall, he had this to say about the possibility of a remake of Gremlins happening:
"No, I don’t think so. I think by now we have something in our contracts, or at least Amblin does, where it can’t be remade without Steven’s permission."
I have to say that remake or Gremlins 3 or whatever, I would crap my pants with happiness if Gizmo & Co. were revisited. This is another property, like Jurassic Park, that I would like to watch until the day I die, and that I can't comprehend what the difficulty is getting another movie out of. We should have a dozen Gremlins movies by now, dammit! Gremlins on a plane! Gremlins on a train! Gremlins in a house with a mouse! So on.

Which reminds me: I watched Magic Mike YES!!terday and thought it would be awesome if they did a stage play or musical version which would actually apply what that commenter said some time ago about doing the thing every year with a different cast.
