Good Morning, Deadites

.

What a coincidence! I literally just started reading The Unseen Force: The Films of Sam Raimi last night, and today just happens to be Bruce Campbell's 54th birthday! Kismet. It is written, perhaps in the blood of lost souls in the Necronomicon.

Anyway I'm currently reading about the short film called Within the Woods that Raimi and his buddies made in 1979 before they made the first Evil Dead movie; these shots are of Bruce getting make-up and prosthetics done for it (via). It's basically a thirty minute sketch of what Evil Dead would come to be...

... or so they say, since I have not seen Within the Woods. But lo! YouTube comes through! The copy I found has French subtitles but appears to be the entire half hour. (There's a copy sans subtitles but it's only thirteen minutes long.) Has this really never made it's way onto any of the thousand DVDs they've released of Evil Dead? That seems odd. Somebody let me know if I'm way off base here. But hey, here's something!

You'd probably enjoy Bruce Campbell's book "Confessions of a B Movie Actor." THere's more material on his childhood in Michigan than I really needed, but there's also tons of material about him and Sam Raimi's early collaborations and the Evil Dead films. It's also very funny.
