Lizzy Lohan

.

Hey didja hear that Lindsay Lohan will be playing Elizabeth Taylor for a Lifetime movie? No, that isn't the set-up to a punchline; it's an actual fact. I just wrote about it a little bit over at The Film Experience, so go check that out.

Leaving the Lindsay issue aside, it reminded me that I watched Cleopatra for the first time a couple of weeks ago - have any of you ever sat through the whole thing? I was in the perfect mood for it (i.e. I wanted to turn off my brain and stare at gaudiness for four hours) so I enjoyed it for the most part. There are moments of true spectacle therein that our CG'd up crowds of today can't even come close to replicating, that's for sure. Plus Liz has some truly magnificent décolletage. Richard Burton's chicken legs left something to be desired in those man miniskirts though.

Ja, I saw it for the first time a few months ago and it was...ok...I came to the conclusion that if you want to see her at her best, don't watch Cleopatra. Did I mention it's long...

Yeah, my reaction on twitter to this news was the following "Miscast! Miscast." Just Hell to the No on that one.

My favorite thing about that movie is Liz's new outfit every time there is a slight change in camera angle.

I just watched it about a month ago after seeing Madonna using for inspiration for her Superbowl spectacular. Loved it.

I'm actually really excited about this. First of all, this is not some major Hollywood production. The risk is very low. If she's terrible, it will just be a forgotten Lifetime movie. If she's good, it may give Lindsay another shot at the career she seemed to be poised for at some point. There's no way a mere Lifetime movie could damage Liz Taylor's legacy. However, I think for better or worse it will bring some finality to the is she or isn't she debate on whether or not Lindsay is truly talented and deserves her fame. I like Lindsay alot. Always have and always will. I've never seen her give a bad performance (though I haven't seen "I Know Who Killed Me") and I've liked her quite a bit in many of the movies I've seen her in. She has presence and charisma. If she didn't, America wouldn't still care about her so much so many years after her last hit film.

That said, for the life of me I just can't picture her as Elizabeth Taylor in any way. Whatevs. I hope for the best, but I except.... something less than the best.

It's called Liz and Dick but with Lohan attached it should be called Lez and Vag.

Can't count the number of times I've watched! Cleopatra was a go to for my ex and I for a do nohting night to sit around and drink, ooh/aah at the costumes and scenery and speak along with the campy dialogue! Love. This. Movie!
