Good Morning, World

.

John Cassavetes would've turned 82 years old today if he hadn't died far back in '89 of cirrhosis of the liver. These shots are from his 1970 film Husbands, which I have never seen - up top that's Peter Falk, Ben Gazzara, Cassavetes and Gena Rowland's brother David, who played small parts in several of Cassavetes' movies. Here's he plays the friend whose death sets the story in motion, bringing together the other three men to grieve. I still always think of John as Guy Woodhouse without hesitation and really gotta make a concerted effort to watch more of his other self-made movies. Anybody seen this movie here?

Yup! I liked parts of it – in particular that amazing scene where Peter Falk inadvertently hits on an saucy old lady in a British casino – but it isn't one of my favorites. I prefer the movies he made that deal with women. I think Cassavetes' best films as a director are Gloria (my personal favorite), A Woman Under the Influence, Opening Night, and Love Streams.
