I Am Link

.
--- Come Back Jake - I'd been starting to worry about Jake Gyllenhaal, his IMDb page has been stagnant for awhile. All he's has is that cop movie he shaved his head for lined up and that finished filming already. I mean his movies haven't been busting open the box office. But maybe he's thinking he ought to be making better choices than he has the past couple of years, and is taking his time? Whatever, we have word on a new film called The Way Way Back from the writers of The Descendants. I can't really tell who's supposed to direct it if anybody's lined up though.

--- Bat Bridge - I knew they were shutting down the Queensboro bridge, or at least part of it, over the weekend for shooting on The Dark Knight Rises and I totally meant to go, but forgot about it completely. Then yesterday I was sitting in the park on the water just south of the bridge eating some lunch since it was such a nice day and I saw this giant plume of black smoke billowing off the top of the bridge, at which point I remembered. Well first I freaked out that the bridge was on fire, and then I remembered it was for Batman. I was too far away for any pictures to show anything, so let's just pretend that it's Christian Bale on that tugboat in this picture I did take then. Wow! Exciting! Glamorous!

--- The Peek-a-boo Gal - I took a moment to mark Veronica Lake's 89th anniversary over at The Film Experience earlier. I tried to find a picture of it but wasn't she the basis for the robot girl bombs in Tom & Jerry? Or were they strictly Mae West? Or was this a Looney Tunes thing? I can't get it straight in my brain.

--- Oldboy Bad Boy - As far as I can tell he hasn't accepted the part yet but Colin Firth has apparently been offered the second male lead role in Spike Lee's remake of Oldboy, opposite Josh Brolin. In Park Chan-wook's film the part was played by Yu Ji-tae, who was great (and more importantly looked really great when he got momentarily naked in the movie). I think Firth's a fine actor but he's six years older than Brolin and looks it, while Yu read much younger than Min-sik Choi did in the original film, so this entirely changes the dynamic. Which might be fine, for whatever Spike's doing! We'll have to see, I guess.

--- Ring That Bell - I would feel bad for Glenn that he missed his screening on Tintin if it hadn't resulted in him posting a big bunch of pictures of Jamie Bell at Stale Popcorn to make up for that fact - as is, I can't possibly feel bad for him when it resulted in such delights.

--- Say Goodbye, Brad - Brad Pitt is threatening that he's going to retire from acting in three years. If you like him you probably should worry about that because he's stayed pretty much true to his promise from a couple of years ago that he wasn't gonna be showing off his ass anymore, and if he could keep that horrible promise then he can probably keep this one.
