Sugarpuss, Would You Yum Me One More Time?

.

Ball of Fire, the wonderful 1941 comedy by Howard Hawks that stars Barbara Stanwyck and Gary Cooper, aka two of my recent total obsessions, is playing this Saturday (tomorrow, that is) at 7pm and next Saturday at 2:40pm at Anthology Film Archives here in NYC, and if I don't get out to see it then y'all need to tar and feather me but good. I already missed their Herschell Gordon Lewis series last weekend, which ugh what is wrong with me???

Anyway Ball of Fire is showing as part of their Auto-Remakes series which started today and goes through the 31st, in which they're showing pairs of films by directors who've remade their own work. For example, they're showing both versions of Hitch's The Man Who Knew Too Much tonight, the 1934 British version and then the big 1956 Hollywood version with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day and oh my god what is wrong with me why am I not going to see that???

They're also showing movies by Lubitsch, Ozu, and John Ford among others. It's a ridiculous wealth of riches so if you're in New York try not to be a loser like me and go see some of this!
