Who Wore It Best?

The great ginger blow-out?

Shelley Long in Troop Beverly Hills,
or Bette Midler in Beaches?
.

.
We have Joe Reid to thank for suggesting this as a post-worthy debate - last week before my vacation I was feeling some 80s nostalgia for these ladies and this query occurred to him, rightfully so, as the natural progression. Julia Roberts owes her entire career to this hairdo, and therefore to these ladies right here. Represent!

Anyway, next stop in my never-ending nostalgia parade: Outrageous Fortune. Where they duke it out in the desert with George Carlin in a dress, of all things.

The 80s were weird.

Outrageous Fortune...hilarious!

LONG - "Where are we? I haven't seen a single white person for miles."
MIDLER - "There's one--oops--they got him."

I had to go with Shelley, partly for the degree of difficulty (she was going through a really hard divorce, you guys), but mostly for the rarity. Bette had been used to the red since she was a little Mayim Bialik, but Shelley was making the transition from blonde. Beautifully done, you uptight chameleon, you!

Shelly Long 100% -- but versus Bette in Big Business ... then the divine Miss M might win

Bette, no contest. Whatever her natural color, she was born to be an outrageous redhead. And Shelley, although I love her, was born to play an uptight blonde.

it's a tough call.
as i small boy (i know, i know), i was OBSESSED with bette midler. the first cassette tape i ever owned was the Beaches soundtrack. i made my parents rent Big Business at least once a month.
and then one day i stumbled upon what appeared to be bette in a movie called Troop Beverly Hills. once it begin, i realized that it wasn't bette (that curly red hair can be so tricky) but that i LOVED the movie anyway. it also made it's way into the monthly rentals.

abstew, did you say cassette tape? talk about a relic from a different generation. Btw, I still have mine along with my LPs and 45 singles from high school. No IPods back then. Oh yeah, gotta love Bette.

I can't, I can't you can twist my arm and crimp my weave, but I cannot choose!!! I love both Bette's and Shelley's blowouts!!! Bette looks absolutely beautiful in "Beaches" especially in the "Oh Industry" scene. I love that scene SeanSTM!!! There are way too amny scenes to quote, but that one scene in Troop Beverly Hills where they flash to a aerobics program and you hear Shelley grunting and it turns out she is trying to open a jar of peanut butter!
