I Am Link

Of course the day I take off there are about a billion stories I should make mention of that pop their wicked little faces up, begging and pleading for me to let go of my silly stab at momentary quietude. The world conspires against me with awesomeness, I am telling you. Here is some of that awesomeness.

--- Lady In Blue - I tweeted my astonishment at this news yesterday, but in case you missed it: Jennifer Lawrence, who can now seen being fucking terrific in Winter's Bone, has apparently landed the role of Mystique in the XMen: Muppet Babies movie. There is way too much acting power set for this movie! For the first time in the history of superhero movies, acting is going to overpower the special effects! The Craft will usurp the CG! I don't believe any of the things I'm typing I hope you realize. Except the part about her being awesome, all these actors set to be in this movie being awesome, probably too awesome for the movie they're set to star in.

--- Oh Joe - There's a nice chat with Joseph Gordon-Levitt up at The Advocate about all the queerness he's played around with in his movie roles. He kissed Topher Grace on That 70s Show? Where the fuck are those pictures?

--- Cheated - You know whose movies always make me angry? Ron Howard's. It might seem odd to have that emotional reaction to the directing epitome of milquetoast, but that's just it: his inoffensiveness has gone beyond something forgettable and transformed into branding, into something epic. He's lousy. His movies slap me across the face with their lack of any and all gumption. Anyway Winona Ryder's cheating on Vince Vaughn with Channing Tatum in his new movie? Dammit! That's sounding like something I'll want to see. And then it will be annoyingly blah, and I'll be angry again. Cycles beget cycles.

--- Hey Look - There's a new picture from Let Me In right here. Yup... her still.

--- Man is an Island - Favorite lady Kim Morgan wrote up some thoughts on Roman Polanski's vastly under-seen movie Cul-de-sac at Sunset Gun. I wrote up some thoughts on that movie once too! It's good!

--- Speaking of Roman - And no, I ain't getting into the fact that Switzerland has decided to let him walk free, so take your outrage somewhere else - He's setting up his next film, an adaptation of the well-received play God of Carnage. That's one I kept meaning to see, but me being me, did not get around to. But now there'll be a movie so who cares.

--- Get the Grind - STYD has word that the entire Grindhouse set like it was meant to be seen - and like I did see it, cuz I'm awesome like that - is finally gonna hit stores in October. That's Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof and all the trailers and other assorted goodies attached. Mmm like Eli Roth in his underpants. Still appreciate that bit.

--- Slow Creep - I meant to watch the new trailer for David Fincher's The Social Network last night but, well got caught up in birthday business, but I hear it's set to a cover version of Radiohead's "Creep" and is sorta, well, creepy?

--- The Master - If that really and truly is the title of Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, then I am going to have a really tough time not picturing Mark Metcalf on Buffy every time anybody talks about it. Anyway PTA starts filming it in August, says here. I hope Phillip Seymour Hoffman lives in an electrified bubble in a cave!

--- Bday Boys - In case you missed it yesterday and feel like ogling a bunch of my favorite studs - and I think I know you, my audience, well enough, hence the link - my pal Joe went and posted a gratuitous batch of 'em for my birthday. More than you can "shake" a "stick" at, I tells ya.
