Life, Presented By Target

.
I snicker every time that phrase is uttered at the start of the Discovery Channel series Life. As if my every waking day is now stamped with a signature Target circle. Anyway that's got nothing to do with nothing, except the word "Life" which is part of the title Tree of Life which is Terrence Malick's new movie and which this post is about. AICN directed me to a quote from a Mr. Bradley Pitt, movie star, giving us a nugget about the film's about:

"It's this little tiny story of a kid growing up in the 50s with a mother who's grace incarnate and a father who's oppressive in nature. So he is negotiating his way through it, defining who he's gonna be when he grows up. And that is juxtaposed with a little, tiny micro-story of the cosmos, from the beginning of the cosmos to the death of the cosmos. So that's where the sci-fi – or the sci-fact – comes in."

And that right there's more then we've known about the story then ever. Dang you, Tight-Lipped Terry! Not that he's let us down once in his several-decade career. Except that whole takes-forever-between-films part. That's a let-down.

Anyway there's more from Pitt at the original link here. Somebody send me to Cannes please to see this, please, thank you.

Oh good! For a second there I was worried Malick was just going to tell a simple story and not unfold his ponderous theories about the cosmos.

You know, Joe, for someone who keeps yammering about "positive day" on Twitter, you sure are full of snark.
