ETA there's a rather lengthy chat with Clash's screenwriters at AICN that I'm reading through right now (slow day at work, y'all) and the topic of Bubo, the metal owl from the original comes up, and they say they wrote a cameo for him but aren't sure whether it made it into the film's final cut or not, but then they share this:
