Happy Birthday, Emily Watson

.

I can't fathom a better casting choice opposite Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love - a character (and a film) thirsty for a respite from the madness, there she is, Emily Watson, one of the most soothing people ever put on film. There is just something so smart and lovely and comforting about her presence. And thankfully Charlie Kaufman used her beyond the admittedly awesome visual gag of her becoming a stand-in for Samantha Morton in Synecdoche, New York for just this purpose - is there a more consolatory scene in the film then the one where she undresses in front of Caden (Phillip Seymour Hoffman), who's now grown rather old, and tells him to do likewise, and calms him and holds him close just when things are falling apart?

Point being, I adore her. Adore. And I wish her a very happy 43rd birthday, and a very very very long career to come. You and me lady, for the long haul.

I caught Hilary and Jackie on cable for the upteenth time the other day. Such great performances by both Emily and the ever lovely Rachel Griffiths in that one as well. She's definitely a keeper!

I miss miss miss miss her!!!
She should be getting great roles after great roles, but instead, her career has evaporated meanwhile talentless hacks are nominating for Oscars (yes, you, Sandra Bullock) :(
Breaking the Waves and Hilary and Jackie are her masterpieces and in my top 20 performances.
I thought she has a movie coming out? Into the Whirlwind? What has happened to that movie? No one buying it?
