Flame Off

.
Of course I never expected my cries for Chris Evans to remain on-board the rebooted Fantastic Four franchise as he was the one good (spectacular; see right) thing about them to amount to anything more than my usual echo-chamber nonsense, so I am not surprised by confirmation of his non-participation. Disappointed, sure. Surprised, nah. Says the actor (via):

"I don't think I'm going to be involved in it. I would imagine a reboot would be -- a reboot! I think they're going to start from scratch and that's the way those movies go. I mean, they're doing it with Red Dawn too. Sometimes they happen quicker than others. Batman there was a big chunk of time, and the new Batman movies are fantastic. Superman, Incredible Hulk. Sometimes its a big gap, sometimes there's a small gap. If there's room to reinvent a franchise in a different tone and they can make a good film out of it, so be it. I'm not going to have anything negative to say about it."

Would it feel weird to watch someone else play the Human Torch?

"Well, of course. But I've done plays and then I'll go see someone else do the same play, and be like 'Hmm. I did it differently!' You know? [laughs] Of course. But let's not confuse weird with bad, or weird with negative. Weird is in no way [negative]. No way would I have any -- I welcome the new franchise. I hope it's fantastic. I like good movies! I'm sure Michael Keaton felt the same way, I'm sure Christopher Reeve felt the same way. If it's a great movie, let's make it. Let's get it out there. There aren't enough of them."

So diplomatic, and yet, so hot. How does he manage to be both things at the same time? It's a mystery wrapped in a thin layer of skin-tight ab-hugging lycra, it is. Sigh. Say your goodbyes, everybody. The end of an era. A sexy, sexy era.

While I agree he looks great in skin-tight ab-hugging lycra, I preferred Scott in a ski jacket or towel.

He said he doesn't think he will, not that it won't happen. Flame on!

Yeah, this news bummed me out. I did like Chiklis as the Thing...and Juian McMahon seemed like a solid choice for Dr. Doom. But Dr. Doom felt...wrong in how he was written.

One of those times where I am all for a reboot, but I will miss Evans.

I love the mention that he "does plays" as if to say "see! i'm still acting!"

Actually, Glenn, "I am in plays" is a way to say, "See? Real Actor! Not just some Hollywood fame hound. I am in this for the love of the art of acting!"
