Ever Heard Of "Happily Ever After"?

.
Yeah, that's where Deputy Dewey and Gale Weathers (and Sidney Prescott for that matter) are supposed to be right now. So I call bullshit! Via Slash/Film:

"Talk of a fourth movie in the Scream series has been going on for quite a while now. Last I heard, Kevin Williamson was has been developing a screenplay (or trilogy of new films, depending on what source you read), that would reboot the series. Entertainment Weekly is now reporting that Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette have been approached about reprising their roles as Gale Weathers and Dwight “Dewey” Riley. No deals have been signed just yet."

Call me crazy but I can't imagine that there is any reason for them to be bringing back Gale and Dewey other than to off them brutally, and subsequently make me a very very very angry boy. To quote Aunt Sassy but minus the funny, "I don't need to see that." I don't. If you're gonna make another Scream, have you got to kill the folks we've already battled through three films with? I know I'm being a really big geek here but the Scream films hold a very special place in my cold dead heart. I've seen them more times than I can count and spent my entire final year of film school writing a massive paper on them... these dudes occupy more of my brain than I'd like to admit. And they got their send-off. Move on. Make a new series, leave them alone. Damn. It. My heart can't take it. Somebody bring me my pills!

Wouldn't it be great if Scream 4 was some kind of scathing satire of the recent spate of horror movie reboots? I might be willing to welcome back Gale Weathers and Dewey then. Big might. For all its faults (mainly managing to waste both Parker Posey and Emily Mortimer), Scream 3 finished things off nicely for all the characters, particularly Syd. That final shot made the rest of the movie worth it.

Anyway, I'm rambling, but when it comes to Scream there are too many thoughts in my head and they all start dribbling out willy-nilly.

The only good Arquette is a dead Arquette. Bring on the slaughter.

See, I liked Scream 3 unlike a lot of people. I saw it as the only natural way of concluding the franchise - by spoofing it! (alas I think Scary Movie beat them to it and not everyone quite "got" it) but if they were ever going to kill one of the mains it had to be in that one. If they make a fourth and kill Gale or Dewey (or Sid) it'd be disappointing.

Although I still get pangs of disappoinment when I remember Scream 3 didn't have its big final set piece inside a Hollywood replica of Stu Macher's house from the original.

Also: I watched Scream every day for roughly two whole months and all up have watch it and its sequel over 300 times. Crazy.
