Via AITH comes our first sorta glimpse of Jackie Earle Haley as Fred Krueger, pre-burns, on the set of the Nightmare on Elm Street reboot scoping out a playground of some sort, presumably for the nefarious pedophilic purposes inherent to his living character:

I was a fan of the original, and a few of the sequals, I have them all on DVD now. I tried to see the 3rd back in 87 or 88 but had to leave the theatre because I was only 16. I saw Mannequin instead. I didn't even know who Patricia Arquette or Lawrence Fishburn were back then. The sequals kept a commin'. The 1st really scared me back then. I wonder how the remake will look.
Pax, for some reason this is a reboot that I'm not entirely skeptical of. Freddy became such a joke - although Craven mostly saved him with New Nightmare (that finale was ridiculously bad though) - that I look forward to making him scary again. And Jackie Earle Haley has been SO GOOD these past couple of years - he blew me away in Watchmen - that I can't wait to see what he does with the character.
All that said, I won't be shocked if they fuck it all up. But I'm cautiously intrigued, at least more than I am by most of these things.
JA,
The first Nightmare was perfect (can I get an amen, and a some special love for Nancy's mom, Marge?). Really, it was the perfect horror film (even the crappy ending). There is no need to remake it.
I really enjoyed New Nightmare, as well.
Frankly, I am sort of fed up with the remakes, re imagining, retreads and all the other re's.
If anything, I'd like to see them tackle the story after part one and do away with all of those god-awful sequels.
