Via CHUD comes the first image I've seen anywhere of Michael Haneke's next film, The White Ribbon. Just last week I gnashed my teeth at the absence of any visuals from the film making themselves known, so this has me positively giddy.
CHUD also tells us this:
I think they're dead-wrong knocking Birth there and I know plenty of y'all agree with me on that one, but otherwise that's a pretty damn exciting collaboration in this film that I wasn't aware of.
CHUD also tells us this:
"Jean-Claude Carriere contributed to the screenplay. Who's that guy? Just some dude. Wrote movies no one likes: The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, Belle du Jour, The Tin Drum, The Return of Martin Guerre and That Obscure Object of Desire. (OK, he also co-wrote Birth, but you can't get 'em all right.)"

This movie! Ack! I have to see this movie NOW!

Really? I'm the ONLY one in my little movie-fag online circle who didn't think Birth was all that great? Did I watch it wrong? (Actually, I may have, if by "wrong" you mean "while being lulled to sleep.")
I liked it the only time I saw it but it's one of those movies that sat on my brain for a very very long time afterward, so much so that I need to revisit it and see how much of the attachment I've developed to the film really holds up to seeing it again. But yes, you watched it wrong, is my point. ;-)
Speaking of movies that take a hold on one's brain though, I am currently in such a state with Wendy & Lucy. It hasn't let go of my brain for months.
I haven't seen Wendy and Lucy (Netflix says it releases May 5) but I looooved Kelly Reichardt's previous film, Old Joy. So I fully intend to love Wendy and Lucy. May 5!
I've been desperate for an image of this since Cannes lineup was announced so thank you. Sadly I can't find any suggestion of a release date here in the UK. I'm making a sad and disappointed face now.
I think there's a good chance it'll be out everywhere by the end of the year, Laurence. At least that's my probably ill-advised attempt at guesstimation. But I'll be post5ing every tiny tiidbit of info that appears on the flick so stay tuned!
