Scary Scorsese

Anybody ever read Shutter Island, Dennis Lahane's book on which Marty Scorsese's next picture is based? I ask because this early teaser poster (via) for the film is pretty creepy, and it's got me wondering just what sort of movie this is going to be.

I know very little about it except for the phenomenal cast - Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer, Michelle Williams, Patty Clarkson, Max Von Sydow and Jackie Earle Haley are just the first eight names on the IMDb page. I had seen some pictures of the set with actors in costume from the "We Can't Wait" post for this film (it came in at #6, but we somehow skipped the roundtable chat about it). But otherwise... zilch.

I have to admit that I'm suddenly having Cape Fear flashbacks... will Shutter Island be that insane? Is Emily Mortimer gonna bite a chunk out of somebody's face? I for one certainly hope so! It's be great to have Marty, now that he got his damn statue, go bonkers again. I know he's still got it in him.

I did read the book. It will make...an interesting movie. I don't think it'll be Cape Fear-ific. Which, to me, is a good thing. I turned that shit off after he bit off a piece of poor Illeana's face, but that's me. *shudder*

I highly recommend it and any of Lehane's books, really. Dude always packs in a nice helping of creepy, even into a detective story. I slept with the lights off after reading one of his Patrick Kenzie novels (The same series that "Gone, Baby, Gone" came from).
