Ready Set, Dead Set Go

.
I've watched Dead Set - the "Zombies meet Big Brother" TV miniseries that aired in the UK this past Fall - almost twice now in the past week, and it really needs to stop giving me nightmares. Like... really. Stop it, Dead Set.

Also, I might mention, Dead Set OWNS y'all. Seek this shit out if you haven't caught it yet. It's not on DVD or anything here in the States so acquiring it can be... difficult... but it's worth some effort. Scary as fuck.

Yes--this is a great series. I too had to track it down via other means, but well worth it... Probably one of the best stories of the genre--even though it has "fast zombies." Pains me to say, but it pretty much got everything right that was wrong with Romero's last film--compelling characters, realistic responses/dialog, and a feeling of tension and being trapped. Definitely worth watching...

You are so spot-on about this doing right what Romero got wrong, carrma. Romero's film, bless his lovely gore-hound soul, was such a let-down, while Dead Set plays with the same exact set of ideas and hits it on the head on a couple of occasions without ever bludgeoning the viewer with obviousness or letting the subtext consume the text to the point where it's more like a badly edited lecture spilling from the mouths of moronic characters than an attempt at actually making a scary movie. All we needed was one character asking "So we're not on the telly anymore" and the shot of the zombies staring at the TV screens and wha-la, point made, ya know?

Not to be *that guy* but what are these other means of acquiring you speak of -- do I need to turn tricks at Blockbuster or something?

It smells like fingering in here.

The girlfriend and I set out to test just one episode and spent half the weekend barreling through the entire thing. Good stuff!

Steven, I meant to just sit down and watch a little too, and now I've watched the whole damned thing twice. I WORSHIP PIPPA.

I'm all about Patrick. He'd make my top five favourite characters in a zombie film, easy.
