Is This The Dude...

... that will be the star (or one of the stars) of Cabin in the Woods, the Joss Whedon / Drew Goddard super-duper-secretive horror flick? His name is Chris Hemsworth, he's Australian and he'll be seen soon in JJ Abram's Star Trek (I think he plays James Tiberius Kirk's brother). According to BD:

"We just got off the phone with MGM who tells us Chris Hemsworth ... has NOT booked a lead role in MGM's super top secret horror/sci-fi pic Cabin in the Woods, as previously reported by various sources. As of this point he is currently in talks. Written by Joss Whedon and helmer Drew Goddard, the only confirmed cast members thus far are Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford. The film said to provide a new twist on a classic scenario -- in this case the young-people-stranded-in-the-woods horror trope."

Any Aussies familiar with the fella? He appears to have had a very very long-running stint on some show called Home and Away down there which seems like a soap opera...? Anyway, here are a couple more pics...

Back when Whitford and Jenkins were cast I expressed excitement that this maybe meant we were gonna see an older cast than is usual with horror these days (culled from the WB stable o' stars), so this Hemsworth pretty-boy kinda throws a wrench into that theory... we'll see. We still know nothing about the film.

Chris looks like Ryan Kwanten from 'True Blood,' so he's got my seal of approval.

I know of him, but since I generally stay far away from "Home and Away," I don't know if he's a good actor. So I've really just seen him on magazine covers and the like.

Jwise, Ryan was also on Home & Away.

That show has featured the likes of Heath Ledger, Naomi Watts, Isla Fisher, Melissa George, Dannii Minogue (oh yes!), Radha Mitchell... etc etc

And Julian McMahon!

Yeah Chris Hemsworth is an OK actor, at least he was on H&A. There was a heck of a lot of talk about his shirtless torso when he was on the show, which kind of distracted from the acting (as I'm sure you can understand!). But his body is magnificent, and I suppose the producers knew how to maximise its potential (who wouldn't?).

His storyline with Zoe, aka "The Summer Bay Stalker" was hilarious. Read more:
