Boy Oh Boy A

.

One of the (many) films I watched this weekend was John Crowley's powerful 2007 film Boy A. Brief synopsis in case you haven't seen it - two young boys commit a terrible crime; years later one of them is released from prison and tries to assimilate back into the world with a new identity. Beyond just telling a great story with fine actors - lead Andrew Garfield was especially touching, and it's always a treat to see Peter Mullan do his thing - it's a really beautifully shot film that begged of me some screen-capping. So I did. These are all mixed up out of order so as to not reveal the plot linear-like for those of you who might want to seek it out. Which you should!

So... I should stop putting it off?

Why have you been putting it off, JD? Are you afraid it'll be too soul-crushing? I mean, perhaps I'm just jaded (the "perhaps" was not necessary there, I know this), but as good as the film was I've been crushed more by other movies than I was this one. It's no Requiem For A Dream.

Pretty much. I don't like my soul being crushed. Happiness is sparse enough as it is. :(

But whatever, I'm gonna see it this week. A friend of mine won't shut up till I see it, which helps.

And I've had Requiem from Netflix for like a month and a half now. I've been putting THAT off for years now because of it's reputation and I'm so fucking terrified of seeing it, even if I love Aronofsky and know it'll be worth the mindfucking. I'm supposed to watch it with Mary Poppins (which I've never seen either) as a bipolar double feature, lol. Ugh.

I'd better be that friend, J.D.... *stares accusingly*

But I'm glad someone else has seen and loved this film. Still the best of '08 for me, I think. Garfield is absolutely terrific. Those are some lovely screencaps, JA.

Dave, I saw two movies this weekend which probably would've placed near or in my top 10 for '08 had I seen them in time - this and Shotgun Stories, which was wonderful as well. I haven't bothered to check their release dates though; this was def. released last year here? IMDb lists it as '07 but lord knows that doesn't mean that's when it got any play.

'Course, Dave. :)

JA, IMDb also says Shotguns Stories got a US release in March '08. So!

...Shotgun shouldn't be pluralized. Um. Hm.
