Did I Call It, Or Did I Call It?

.
That's right, y'all! The award for "Guess the most obvious casting choice in the history of all of mankind" goes to yours truly, for having acknowledged in the comments of this post at TFE that Tim Burton would be casting his current beloved Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen in his Alice in Wonderland movie. I'm totally decent at catching on to obvious things! Go me!

A little less expected however is the other news (via):

"[Anne] Hathaway is playing the White Queen, a benevolent monarch who is deposed and banished by her sister, the Red Queen (Carter), who has an affinity for crying out, "Off with their heads!" The White Queen needs Alice (Mia Wasikowska) to slay a creature known as the Bandersnatch."

I know y'all agree with me that Hathaway gave SNL its best episode in ages this past weekend, so it's nice to see her rewarded with what should surely be a fun role. She should make for a nice fit into Burton's world, I think. And I do love Anne so I can't feel necessarily bad about this choice, but this totally could've been Winona Ryder's role... if Tim Burton won't shine a lil' love on lost Winona, who will?

But I thought Anne Hathaway liked the Bandersnatch.

Good call, ross. This must've been a particularly disagreeable bandersnatch to ruffle Anne's feathers so.

no complaint here. helena makes for a good argument for nepotism.

Don't get me wrong, I love HBC too. I'm one of the few that liked her in Sweeney Todd even.

I must admit that HBC's performance as Mrs. Lovett has grown on me. I wasn't impressed at all in the theater, but on DVD, I found myself liking her more and more. I think she's a good call for Alice.
