I Am Link

--- And So It Begins - io9 has word from Brian K. Vaughn, author of Y: The Last Man, on a couple of "major" changes that DJ Caruso is making in translating the story for the screen... and io9 nails why these changes are already hinting at a reductive approach of Caruso's that's missing the point of the original story completely (as if wanting to cast Shia wasn't already indicative of that.)

Caruso explained himself over at SciFiWire last week but I'd missed it. The more he talks, the more worried I become. Eagle Eye had better blow me away. Or else! Or else, I says!

--- The House Of Hammer Reopens - Hammer Films is making a new horror movie! The iconic home to Christopher Lee and a never-ending cascade of overflowing bodices hasn't made a movie in 30 years, but principal photography has just begun on Wake Wood, which stars Aiden Gillen (you might know him as the lucky SOB who, among other things, got to do this with Charlie Hunnam in the British Queer as Folk... I hate you Aiden Gillen, really I do).

--- Don't Cry For Him, He's Argento - AICN chats with horror auteur Dario Argento about his career and his latest flicks The Third Mother and his upcoming Adrien Brody-starring Giallo. He talks a lot about how he loves dividing audiences and how people's reactions to Mother of Tears were sometimes crazed (one woman screamed "You bastard! You bastard!" at him in a restaurant). Which is funny. Speaking of, Mother of Tears is out on DVD today! I thought it was a big sloppy ball of fun.

--- Blabbing 'Bout Brooke - When I wrote up my brief thoughts on The Midnight Meat Train yesterday, I ran out of room to mention Brooke Shields' performance; thankfully my bud Joe rights that oversight at Low Resolution. What he said.

--- Save The Dates! There are three points of interest at the start of October that I aim to direct your eyes to:

* First, He Shot Cyrus will be hosting the "My Best Post Blog-a-thon" on October 3rd wherein a bunch of blogs shall submit their very best for commingling linkage... should be an ingenious way to scour around, visit places you haven't seen before, and scope the best of their best.

** Next up, the next round of Final Girl's Film Club strikes on October 6th with the "Joan Crawford wields an ax!" camp classic Strait-Jacket, which I ain't never seen and am mighty looking forward to the experience, I do say.

*** Did I say experience? Well that same day, October 6th, The Film Experience is hosting the third round of the "Musical of the Month" series, this time with 1943's "groundbreaking" Cabin in the Sky... which sounds rather interesting, if I do say so myself, myself being a musical-hater from way back. Hmm.

--- And finally, Greatest Series of Mini Film Festivals Ever.
