Pics of the Day

Some new stills from The Road showed up today (via):

There are a couple more at the link.

I'm really very curious how much Charlize Theron (happy birthday, my love!) is going to be shoe-horned into the story. Because there should be about five minutes max if they keep it to what's in the book... but something tells me she might have been given a little more to work with. Which is fine with me... her character is obviously a very important part of the story, and her actions haunt so very much of everything that happens...

... I say while trying to not give away anything to those of you who haven't read the book. Also, to you same people: read the effing book already. Ahem.

Anyway, these look PERFECT. Really right on. It's amazing how much of a specific scene flooded back into my memory from that still of the truck on the bridge... I haven't read the book in well over a year, but I remember that.

Yeah. I saw a picture in EW of a gaunt, bearded Viggo holding a derringer in his right hand while gripping the hand of his son in his left while moving through some dead brush, and Viggo looked starving and thoroughly alarmed and the boy's face was smudged with dirt, pale. It gave me chills, especially considering that I happened to see this photo about a couple days after finishing the book. Whoever picked Viggo Mortensen, that, that was inspired. Also, The Proposition was basically the closest thing I've seen to a cinematic equivelant of the spare, sunbaked, godless landscape in "Blood Meridian." This seems to be being handled just right. Also, Omar from The Wire, Michael K. Williams, plays The Thief.
