Hack Stab Slash... Pad

I'm not especially concerned with the Friday the 13th "remake" that's happening. Sure, I had my dreams of Patty Clarkson playing Mrs. Voorhees, but then word started coming forth that the film isn't really a remake of the first film, per se; that Jason would be wholly murder-riffic in it, with the hockey mask and various killin' accoutrement, so whatever: it's a new Friday the 13th and they just don't feel like slapping a Part 12 on it. Which is sorta unfortunate - they got so close to 13! If another happens - who am I kidding; WHEN another one happens, I really hope they make use of it being #13 of the series.

Anyway, my point is Friday the 13th isn't exactly Rosemary's Baby. Just give me the big man wielding a machete at some horny teenagers and I'll be happy. Or sated, at least.

Today comes news of the caliber of actor they're attracting to this project... Jared Padalecki of Supernatural fame is about to join the cast as an "investigator." A real big boy! He's like our new Martin Balsam or Donald Pleasence! Sigh. Listen... I know there are a lot of... what's the word... rabid, rabid is the word... fans of Mr. Pad and his CW program. The gratuitous post I did on him ages ago still gets loads of hits every day and it seems like a new comment every other week pops up on it. The boy is attractive. And y'all fans seem convinced he's got some skills, acting-wise as well (contrary to what I implied then... and continue to imply now...).

I just... I'm just glad, breathing a sigh of relief as it were, that my expectations for this Friday the 13th re-whatever have been kept low. Because this news does not convince me that they're gonna try and up the usual acting-level of a Friday the 13th film. Indeed, it just makes me think they're making one of the endlessly interchangeable once-populated-by-WB-stars- now-moved-on-to-The-CW movies. Like Mr. Pad's last horror flick, House of Wax (which, I'll admit, was way more fun than it ought to have been).

So whatever. Whatever, I says. I know now where we stand, Friday the 13th re-whatever. Make with the good killin's all I ask of you.
