Not My Top 20

.

Reuters polled American moviegoers to find out what their most anticipated upcoming movies were. Here's the Top 20:

1. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
2. The Dark Knight
3. National Treasure: Book of Secrets
4. American Gangster
5. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
6. Iron Man
7. I Am Legend
8. Get Smart
9. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
10. Charlie Wilson's War
11. Hancock
12. Beowulf
13. His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass
14. Mamma Mia!
15. The Incredible Hulk
16. Speed Racer
17. Step Brothers
18. Bee Movie
19. Mr. Magnorium's Wonder Emporium
20. Starship Dave

Just ugh, ya know? One does wonder what the list of movies given to these 2000 people included, and of course the more idiosyncratic films would get levelled off this sort of populist playing field. But still. National Treasure 2 coming in at #3? Really? I continue to confess ignorance of any draw Nicolas Cage could possibly hold anymore, yet the man makes hit after hit so somebody - a lot of somebodies - out there apparently still really digs that wig-wearing Kal-El-spawning nimrod.

There are so many movies I would substitute into this list that I'm not going to even bother trying to name names. It's just useless. Useless! Feel free to join my bitch-fest in the comments!

This is MOVIEGOERS! Do you honestly expect the average moviegoer to say their anticipating Atonement or No Country for Old Men, much less know what they are?

Come on. This is a pretty usual list.

I don't expect it. But it doesn't mean I can't be disgusted by it anyway.

I'm complete disgusted too. Christ. That list is just terrible.

There's not a single film on that list that I'm looking forward to. National Treasure made me want to jettison myself into the sun, I hated it so much.

And I don't know, I really really don't care about Indiana Jones anymore.

Meh.

Most of this list sucks, but I'll admit I'm looking forward to "American Gangster" and "Mamma Mia!" (I love ABBA and Meryl Streep more than life itself separately, so I think my head's going to explode when they're together in the same film).

I'm looking forward to Indy (because I still love Spielberg, fingers in my ears, nyahnyahnyah I can't hear you) and Batman, Iron Man has a good trailer, I'll see I Am Legend because of the story but have no faith it'll be any good cuz of Will Smith and what he did to I, Robot; I wanna see Beowulf but have no idea why; of course I'm dying to see The Golden Compass, this place is riddled with proof of that; Hulk - Bana = me no care anymore; and maybe Speed Racer, cuz Christina Ricci rules.

The rest of the list can eat my excrement.

America is full of morons. What else is new? These are the people who keep seeing Nicolas Cage movies and gave Wild Hogs 100 million $.

It's interesting that National Treasure 2 came so high.

Banner=Freaking awesome. I just can't say it enough.

I am looking forward to 2, 4, 7, 13, 16. Althought when some of the others start releasing ad material...

Still, I doubt I will never have interest in 3, 5, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 9, 15.

And I don't even know what some of these movies are.

i'll probably see 'i am legend'. i think the preview for 'national treasures 2' or whatever it's called gave me a rash. and seeing helen mirren in it was just that much worse.
