Today's Mood

.

Roslyn Taber (Marilyn Monroe),
The Misfits

"I don't know. Maybe all there really is
is just the next thing. The next thing that happens.
Maybe you're not supposed to remember anybody's promises.
Maybe that isn't fair to them."

I just saw it for the first time this weekend. LOVED it.

I also pretty sure this is the first time I've actually seen MM in anything - except for that small bit in All About Eve, of course - and man, I don't know that I want to see her in anything else now, knowing how amazing she is here.

I know a lot of it is how John Huston using her the right way, and how much of her outside persona feeds into how we view the character, but she's still so wonderful here.

Ja, I haven't seen everything she's been in, but I'd suggest Bus Stop, Niagara, Some Like It Hot and while I haven't seen it, she got nominated for a bunch of stuff for some movie with Showgirl in the title. The Prince and the Showgirl? Something like that.

I could suggest Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, but it's an extremely camp musical, so...

How'd I forget Some Like It Hot?!?!? I've seen that, I just blanked on it. She was... the Marilyn Monroe I expected in SLIH, not horrible by any means, but more like an icon than an actress, from what I remember. It has been several years, though, so maybe there's more to her performance than I am remembering.

I've seen bits and pieces of her musicals, the big famous scenes, I think it's impossible to make it through film school or film loving and not have been shown the "DIamons Are a Girl's Best Friend" number from GPB, and yeah... not gonna be my cuppa tea.

ja, I need your help. More than you know. Please take pity on me. I've been reading your blog for I thing going on 2 years, but who keeps track of these things? I'm married to a moron. I made him watch Donnie Darko and he said at the end, "I guess you gotta be high to like that movie." Then he proceeded to explain to me on how unrealistic the film was because time travel doesn't happen THAT WAY. I kid you not. Long story short, Almodovar is my favorite filmmaker. Part of me died when Jeff Buckley drowned. Chuck Palahniuk is high on my list of favorite writers (H.G. Wells anyone?) I'd give me life tomorrow to spend tonight with Jason Statham. I've seen the Misfits twice but I'll never watch it again because it drains my very soul and tears me into a million pieces (and yes, Marilyn Monroe was a phenomenal actress). Tell me how I can find someone like you to exchange mature, adult interaction with. Someone with a heart and soul. Oh, and taste.
While we're at it: Let's Make Love is my second favorite MM movie. It is a big mistake to credit MM's brilliant performance to Huston. Her husband wrote that part only for her for a reason.

anonymous - My boyfriend hates Radiohead. Just this past weekend I had my iPod playing on random and a Radiohead song came on and the bf said that he hates Thom Yorke's voice, and it took all the strength I've ever had and will ever have not to knock him out the window. So I get ya, when the significant other shows buffoonery regarding things we enjoy, how infuriating it is. But one must learn to love the differences too, I suppose, if by differences we mean "deficiencies" and I think you know I do. ;-)

And I spaced on the fact that MM was married to Arthur Miller and he must've written this part for her. I didn't mean any sort of slam on her or her abilities, though.
