Let Them Entertain Us

.

I'm annoyed that I've coerced myself into even posting this, but I'm not one who can fight off the indulgent opportunity to imagine two crushes going at it on Primetime TV, so any resistance is futile. From Towleroad:

"Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has suggested that David Beckham is interested in playing one half of a gay couple that would move on to Wisteria Lane in the upcoming season of Desperate Housewives.

Said Cherry: "David's keen, but the obvious choice was to work with Tom Cruise. We wanted someone who matches him in height and Britishness, so Robbie is the one. They're both funny, game for a laugh and ridiculously macho, so it should work wonderfully. The English are pitch-perfect for sending themselves up."

There has been no confirmation that either Beckham or Williams are signed on to the show, so this all may be a pipe dream from Cherry designed to generate some buzz, or at least to generate reaction from the stars themselves."

This rumor is symptomatic of why I stopped watching DH about a quarter into the first season and never looked back; Cherry's a consummate salesman but he's turned this could-have-been-promising show into a Love Boat for the aughts.

Still - and I'm sure Robbie joins me in this fantasy - watching the two of them kitted up and wrestling in their backyard does inspire... thoughts...

I don't believe this for a millisecond (Beckham strikes me as so shy that saying lines on tv would give him nightmares), but it would be hot.
