I opened up this question before and got some good responses - Gaspard Ulliel, Jonathan Tucker, Lucas Haas - but now FilmIck offers up two other names to take the role of young Magneto (played by Ian McKellen in the trilogy) in the X-Men spin-off, and I have to say one of them strikes me as the best idea yet. Unfortunately it's not the one FI says is the front-runner:
Justin Chatwin just sort of strikes me as a turd onscreen, and I don't think he looks the part at all, so I'm bored to tears by mention of his name.
But Ben Whishaw, from Perfume: The Story of a Murderer, would be a fantastic choice. He had a great presence in Perfume (even if the movie was a wee stale), and he has most definitely got the look of a young Ian McKellen. I mean, look at this:
Perfect. Somebody get me David Goyer on the phone. And a cappuchino, while you're at it.
.
"Has David Goyer cast Justin Chatwin as Magneto? Possibly. I heard Ben Whishaw was up for it, but I don't really know about that for sure either."

Justin Chatwin can be really awesome, as his one perfect episode on Weeds shows. I could see him doing a good job as Magneto.
I have heard good things about his stint on Weeds, but until I see it for myself a turd he shall remain.
The last time you posted about this I ALMOST suggested Whishaw so....yea!
