This Pompeii project of Roman Polanski's - I posted about it before here - I just can't get my mind wrapped around. It just... I mean, it could be really cool. It... it just kinda defeats my brain when I try to imagine exactly what this thing could be. Obviously. I mean, I can't spit out a coherent sentence here. Anyway, the cast rumors have begun (via Cinematical):
Hee. Seriously, that's a pretty two-some to be sure, but the two of them haven't exactly been killing us with their Acting lately. Will this be Dante's Peak in Togas? Will Polanski ever make a film as good as Rosemary's Baby again? That second one's a trick question: no, he - no one - never could make a movie as perfect as Rosemary's Baby.
.
"If this rumor (and, right now, it's only a rumor) turns out to be true, [Orlando] Bloom will play Marcus Attilus Primus; a Roman engineer who is sent to Pompeii to help repair "the greatest aqueduct in the Roman Empire." However, while there, he must deal with all kinds of corrupt government types and a tiny volcanic eruption that, well, wipes out the entire city. Pic is based on Robert Harris' best-selling novel of the same name, and will reportedly begin filming in August. This will most certainly be Polanski's most ambitious film to date; heck, the amount of CGI effects alone opens up a whole new avenue for the director. And while [Scarlett] Johansson has a ton of projects lined up, she'll be in Spain (where most of the Pompeii production is said to be taking place) shooting Woody Allen's new film, so I assume she'll be available to stop by Polanski's set to act all, "Oh my God, what's that red stuff coming at me!?""

apparently, it seems that neither actor will be available....damn, guess they'll have to hire actual Italians now
He did make one as good as Rosemary's Baby-it's called Chinatown (just joshing-when you have movies of the caliber of those two films, you really can't complain either way).
I'll line up for anything Polanski, even if it has Orlando Snooze in it. But I really hope it doesn't.
I wasn't putting a lot of stock in these two actually getting cast, so I'm glad it ain't true, thanks for clearing that up, rj.
Why do I always forget that Polanski directed Chinatown? I love Chinatown and have probably seen it ten times, but if you were to ask me tomorrow what films Polanski's directed I'd probably list ten others before remembering he did Chinatown. I guess - even though it does, if you really look at it - it doesn't feel as much like the rest of his movies do his. Rosemary and The Tenant and Repulsion and Frantic - those are more what I think of when I think Polanski. Chinatown's got this whole other vibe to it. End ramble.
