Nola Carveth (Samantha Eggar),
The Brood
The Brood
"What would YOU do about it?"
The Brood is really underrated, I think. Yes, the acting is a bit sub-par here and there and it's pretty dated with the psycho-spiritual-babble of the seventies, but it never fails to freak me out in those very special ways only Cronenberg can. The below shot alone is nightmare-inducing; I LOVE the form "evil" takes in this movie:

It's one of his best looking movies, too, I think; really well shot with great framing and spectacular usage of very time-specific locations. And it's a slow-build of a movie, but man, it's got one of the greatest pay-off's ever.

Oh, I remember seeing The Brood a few years back. It was kind of slow, but I liked it. I loved the concept, and some of the scenes were quite memorable.
Definitely one of the most underrated horror films and perhaps my favorite Cronenberg film of all time. It's a slow build for sure, but the last half-hour is just top notch. The scene where the father goes to retrieve his daughter from the cabin, only to encounter some "resistance," is downright terrifying.
