--- With a cast that great, it makes sense that the poster (from
DH) for
Evening would make those names the focus - and it's not like I was breathlessly awaiting the reveal of this film's poster like I would be for something a little more surface (and less subtance) based, like say how I drool over what Eli Roth comes up with for
his sicko Hostel posters - but still, and to finally get to my point, I hate
Evening's poster. That is a world of bland cheese. It looks like one of those inspirational, "Things'll get better!" greeting cards.
But again,
my wanting to see this movie isn't affected by anything associated with what the movie's marketing team comes out with - with that cast and the name
Michael Cunningham you had my ticket purchased months ago.
--- One Thumb Up - So glad to hear
from Roger Ebert himself that he's doing better and is gonna be present - if not speaking - at his Overlooked Film Festival at the end of this month. Now he's just got to get back in that darn balcony with Roeper; has anybody caught the endless string of flops that've been warming Rog's seat lately?
--- Crab, fight the worm! Good news - Tina Fey's increasingly gut-busting
30 Rock has gotten
renewed! I started Tivo'ing the show several weeks ago and don't think I could live without it now, so this makes me pleased.
Now where's the good goddamned news on
Veronica Mars???
--- Speaking of the boob tube, there's
a zombie television series being filmed by CBS right now? Had me at zombie; lost me at Amber Tamblyn, though. Still, the zombies look good and, uh, zombie-like, and with the post-
Buffy/
Angel horror drought on TV (no,
Supercraptural does
not count, even if
Jared Padalecki is stupid-hot), it's nice to see something coming down the pipeline that could possibly, if not fill that gaping void left in their wake, at least kill the pain a lil' bit, here and there. Cuz monsters!
--- Found this one via
TFE, but just had to link to it myself - Andrew at
Cinevistaramascope made a list after my own heart: his
Top Ten Final Girls.
And it was all inspired by Carol Clover's wonderful, wonderful,
wonderful book on the female heroine of the Slasher Film, called
Men, Women and Chainsaws - a tome that got me through so many college papers it's ridiculous. Good,
good memories, come from being reminded of that book.
