Wishin' & Hopin'

.

Even though I've expressed my disinterest in the Academy Awards pre-season this year, I have to admit that a secret, deep part of me is hoping against hope that some sort of sanity prevails tommorow morning and we hear "surprise" nominations for Children of Men for Best Picture and Alfonso Cuarón for Best Director.

Ooh and Clive Owen for Best Actor! Golly that'd make my day.

I'm not allowing my hopes to get too high, but I do keep hearing that little voice in the back of my mind whispering that Children of Men just may've been on voters minds around the time the nomination ballots were sent back in a few weeks ago. Maybe?

I'm not alone in this wish; over at Popwatch (EW), Michael Slezak is wondering where the love is for Cuarón's film himself. Can't we all just band together and concentrate reeeeeeal hard and make this happen? Who's with me?

Oh, and other futile wishes I harbor are:

Michael Caine (CoM) for Best Supporting Actor
Claire-Hope Ashitey (CoM) for Best Supporting Actress
Maribel Verdú (Pan's Labyrinth) for Best Supporting Actress
Hugh Jackman (The Fountain) for Best Actor
Sophia Coppola (Marie Antoinette) for Best Director

I'll staple the wings to the pig's backs myself if it makes any difference! Seriously, if any of these people get nominated I'll be happy. Just give me one, AMPAS! One! I've supported you for so long! And last year, the Black Year, has already damaged our relationship so much. You need to win me back! Cuarón is a box of chocolates, and Children of Men is a path of rose petals up to the bed.
