Old News Is New News

.

I thought that this had been announced months ago, but I guess not since it's "officially" "all over the trades" this morning:

"Oscar nominee Helena Bonham Carter has been cast as Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix reports the trades.

Lestrange is Sirius Black's cousin and a Death Eater, who is one of the evil Lord Voldemort's followers. She's is one of the more sinister characters in Rowling's book series."

I watched most of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire again a couple of weeks ago, and I really do think it is the best of the as-of-now-released films... Goblet is my favorite Potter book (so far), and though Cuaron did a great job with Azkaban, there's something really just right about Mike Newell's job with Goblet that eluded the other films. Maybe it was Newell's upbringing in that English parochial-school sort of world.

Let's hope David Yates keeps the ball rolling with Phoenix, which I think is probably the toughest book so far to adapt. Yates is an unknown quantity so far, so this is a big question mark.

Ahem, anyway, topic at hand - Bonham Carter's perfect for Lestrange, though I can't imagine she'll have a whole lot to do; the part's not huge, from what I remember, and there are so many characters bumbling around in this world by now I can't imagine her being that important to the film's final outcome. But she certainly looks like the Lestrange I imagined.
