Spike Does Max

///////

I totally forgot that Spike Jonze was making a film version of Where The Wild Things Are. Awesome news! And Catherine Keener will be playing Max's mother. Awesomer news. And Jim Henson's company will be making the creatures. Awesomest news.

I went and bought a copy of Maurice Sendak's classic book last night after work, realizing I should own a copy and flipping through was such a nostalgia trip - I must've looked at that book a thousand times as a kid.

I'm esctatic that a terrific director like Jonze is doing this, since without a name like his attached I'd fear some sort of childhood-raping a la the Dr. Suess movies of late. I have to wonder, though, if Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine director) might have been an even better choice? He's the man whose visuals I can picture best accompanying Wild Things - he seems to have a bit more of a sense of childhood wonder about him, where Jonze is sometimes a little too hipster-ironic. But Jonze is great, too, and by no means an also-ran.
