Year of the Monarch

I'm always posting links about gross insects on here, so most of you will be relieved to see this is a post about the "lovely" Monarch Butterfly.

I've been seeing them everywhere this Fall, which is strange. I don't remember having seen one for years, but in the past month they've been everywhere - fluttering around me at Prospect Park, flying past the windows of my office building in downtown Manhattan.

I think we're about to be invaded. It's like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, everyone's all "Oooh" and "Ahhh" with the pretty angel-ghosts, and then BAM they're dessicated corpses and our heads are melting.

See, I think butterflies are just as nasty as any of their many-legged counterparts. I once ventured into the Butterfly Zone at the Bronx Zoo and I almost had a nervous breakdown. The things were everywhere, trying to land on me, with THEIR LEGS and god it was terrible. I almost began stomping and swatting at them, I'd rolled my zoo map up without even realizing it, and I had to get out of there quick. Terrible.

I don't know what I was thinking in the first place, wandering into a place that looks like you're walking into a larvae's asshole.
