The Sufjan Stevens Show

Aww. Ain't he adorable? This pics from Brooklyn Vegan, who'll have other stuff about the show last night if you're so inclined; from the POV of this picture I think we were standing in exactly the same spot. Huh.

Anyway, Sufjan and Co. was a great show. He's doing five nights at Bowery so, to mix it up, he's got a different theme each night; last night, as the pic makes obvious, was Pirate Night. For a good portion of the show everyone was dressed like cheerleaders with a Pirate flair - it was supposed to be Spirit Week at our imaginary High School.

Wierd thing about that? THERE WAS A GIRL I ACTUALLY WENT TO HIGH SCHOOL WITH IN HIS BAND! This girl I grew up with, her mother was my elementary school music teacher, she was playing the keyboard, singing back up, standing onstage right beside ol' Suffy. I didn't get a chance to say hello, they all disappeared post-show and, as she and I weren't really ever friends in school, I wasn't going to go all stalker and try to get backstage to say hello since I haven't seen her since high school ended. But weird, right?

Well, if you're out there, Bridget who played on the stage with Sufjan and now has a new married name I don't remember, HI! Congrats on the first rate gig with a musical genius! You sounded and looked great! Drop me a howdy.

Sufjan really couldn't be any cuter, he sounded perfect, the band was great... he played almost all my "most favorite" songs, he was funny and had a great presence... my love is solidified for reals now.

During the earlier acts he was standing across the room with the audience and it took a lot of effort not to give him a big hug like a freak. There was even a fake-out wave moment early on, when the room was almost empty (I got there early), when he was standing across the room and waved at me, but there were people behind me and he was probably waving at them but I don't know for sure, they didn't wave back and it really did seem like he was waving at me cuz I was just STARING AT HIM, as I am wont to do... but I didn't wave back because I really didn't think he could've possibly been waving at me... I know, I'm a total spazz and stalker... Sigh...

UPDATE: The following pic is from Stereogum, and it has my new Hometown Hero Bridget in it:

That's her, all the way to the right in the cheerleader outfit. Hi, Bridget!
