So, the boyfriend came over last night, made me dinner, rubbed my back, and I feel completely better today. I've still got some sinus pressure, but I'm handling it with renewed vigor, thanks to my cuddly monkey. I know, eww.
I've also, in the span of the three hours I've been here at work today, managed to get myself excited about seeing Charlie & The Chocolate Factory tomorrow night. The reviews at AICN and EW did it, both calling it Burton's best film since Ed Wood. I have a special, twisted place in my heart for Mars Attacks, which gets a lot of gruff I'd say is unwarranted, as well as Sleepy Hollow, but I hated Planet of the Apes and strongly disliked most of Big Fish. It's weird, looking at Burton's filmography, to see how few movies he's actually directed; it seems like there should be more of them. But he's had such a solid and individual point of view, I guess he just seems like more of a film presence than his actual workload would suggest.
With my wobbly head the past couple days, I haven't been much up for watching any movies, hence the lack of reviews this week, but that should change over the weekend. I've got a couple biggies coming from Netflix, A Very Long Engagement, which I really wanted to see in the theater but somehow missed out on, and Million Dollar Baby, which I'm wary of yet feeled coerced to give a chance.
I've also been strong-armed into finally watching Kairo (Pulse), by some very enthusiastic reviewers who say it's the best of recent J-horror flicks. I'm sort of burnt out by Asian horror right now, there are only so many swatchs of terrorizing black hair you can be afraid of, but since I got Kairo off of Ebay and it's just been sitting there for weeks, I should go ahead and watch it tonight.
So stay tuned! The excitement never ends! We's international!
