Well the Oscar nominations are here and they flopped the only test I was giving them this year -- nominate Marianne Jean-Baptiste in Hard Truths for giving the best performance this year, perhaps even this decade, in Best Actress. So I fully don't give a shit about the rest of the noise even if a couple of cool things happened -- I expected The Substance to get Best Actress and maybe even Best Director but scoring Best Picture seemed a stretch and they went there, which is cool. Hoping they will make it Ralph Fiennes year FINALLY; happy for Fernanda Torres, who is wonderful in I'm Still Here and I certainly don't blame her for MJB's absence -- not when two of the Best Actress nominations are straight up trash. Yura Borisov! Guy Pearce! Nosferatu nabbing several noms for its exquisite everything! But mostly in a really interesting year for movies they nominated the least interesting, basic, to downright bad things -- shocker! Conan O'Brien hosing the audience down with blood and reenacting the end of The Substance might be the only saving grace, I fear.
Well now that that is over we can get back to talking about movies yay

They didn’t nominate Angelina Jolie for her marvelous performance in Maria or June Squibb and the late Richard Roundtree for Thelma either. I thought June Squibb gave the best performance of the year!
I'm pretty sure I know the actress noms you thought were straight up trash. I've only seen the one, but I agree. Have not been able to make myself watch a lot of these, but I'm gonna try. Hope to see Nickel Boys on Monday. From what I've heard Hard Truths screwed up their screeners, so that played a part.
Did they? I got a physical screener for Hard Truths ages ago, and it was on our CCA app, but that's obviously not the same as AMPAS.
I can’t stress how amazing it is that The Substance nabbed a Best Pic and Best Actress nom….The Academy usually sticks its nose up to horror, let alone body horror! Toni Colette, Lupita Nyongo and Mia Goth all walked so Demi could run!
Also I forgot blue sky was a thing. I’ve avoided X for months - time to get blue sky a second chance.
What are the trash performances? I guess one is the Emília Perez lady and the other? Only watched The Substance and I'm Still Here (think Torres deserves to win)
Challengers blanked. When they fail to give the best movie of the year, I don't know what to do. Sebastian is great and The Substance love is cool. But Conan??? And the LA fire stuff they plan to do? This ceremony promises to be as bad as Rob Lowe kissing Snow White. At least that had camp.
Conan is hilarious and very quick witted. He’s actually the only thing I’m looking forward to, well that and a Demi snatching that Oscar!
What are the two trash performances for Best Actress. I must know!
