It's true! Three times now! I watched it on my commute this morning and it had me blubbering like an infant on the train. I have no idea if James Gunn will land this when we see the full movie -- July 11th, 2025! Right in time for my birthday! -- but in the two-ish minutes of this trailer he filled me with a sense of Hope like no Superman movie has done since Christopher Reeve. And I don't mean hope for the movie -- hope that it will be good. I mean Hope in the broad, "hope for the world and for decency and kindness" sense.
Which is a ridiculous thing to take away from a movie trailer but that is the feeling that Superman, at his absolute best, was invented to inspire. So to capture that feeling in two minutes of trailer is something. Granted we're in dark days right now so I am weak and susceptible to emotional swings and neediness! But I've been thinking how weird it is that entertainment hasn't at least tried to ape Depression-era uplift -- maybe we're too cynical now for it. I don't know. I just know this trailer stirred me. When that little kid clutches the flag and prays Superman's name, I absolutely fucking lost my shit. Watch:

Same. I was like the Grinch and my cold ugly hearted started to melt.
WOW. Impressive. So glad they brought back the original music that gave me gay goose bumps as a kid watching Chris Reeves' Superman I and II.
Yup! And they included Krypto!!
Is it me or did Clark Kent look a lot like Richard Ayoade what with the mussed curly hair and glasses?
Me too
The first time I ever saw a picture of David Corenswet I thought Superman.
Add Rachel Brosnahan as Lois and I might actually want to see this.
Excellent font choice. Now if they bring “Can You Read My Mind?” into the next trailer, I’ll be a blubbering mess
I thought Daniel was good looking. If you managed to take a handsome man and make him look dull then you know it’s a mess. But I don’t expect anything from the scooby doo guy
Yes but also absolutely not.
Huh?
What are you talking about this looks like crap not worse than the cavil films but at least Henry is a god
Agreed. Corenswet looks PERFECT. The score, Nickie going full Lex, the romance, Krypto, that money shot of Superman saving the girl...everything other than Fillion's haircut is brilliant. "Challengers" is the gold standard of trailers and movies, but in the super hero pantheon, this trailer has no equals.
Yep, I teared up too. I am not liking the very lose wrinkly costume, but otherwise I am hopeful for a good film. The last time Superman got me teary was the opening sequence of Superman Returns.
I'm not sold on Corenswet - not sure he has the charisma or that he can really fill out that weird Superman suit. But the rest looks good so I'll probably see it.
I trust James Gunn after the Guardians trilogy, and my confidence is further inspired by the fact that we actually see Superman DOING heroic things in this trailer, as opposed to moping with Pa Kent or Lois or some random priest and faffing around about what Superman means and whether he should be Superman. And thank God, it doesn't look like he'll be breaking anyone's neck.
