Why is this in black and white? Every Ridley should have the color palette of a champagne ad.

My guess is they wanted to differentiate it from the '99 film - they're doing for a classy diamond ad, I suspect

I ... is Ruth Wilson playing Freddie Miles? And is the twist that actually, Ruth Wilson has been Rebecca Ferguson all along?

You know it is going to be good with Andrew Scott. The man can emote.

Whyyyyyyy black and white? Ugh

Ripley does not emote though! What makes the books so effective is the dry, detached, flat tone and being told completely from Ripley's point of view/inner monologue and I'm not sure how that can really work on the screen, even with as good an actor as Andrew Scott.

Worked just fine for Matt Damon. (I have not seen Alain Delon's performance).

The B&W is a poor choice. I don't mind B&W in some circumstances but part of the story is the exotic locales and how Ripley does or doesn't blend in. Think of how effective those awful lime green shorts were on Damon, how much they stood out around everyone else's sophisticated attire and marked him as Not One Of Us. The B&W is going to make that effect harder to achieve.

If this is based on the first novel then both Scott and "Dickie" are too old for the parts as written. Hopefully they've re-imagined it in a way that gets around that effectively.
