Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

 ... you can learn from:

Gentleman Jim (1942)

Jim: Do you know what I'd do with you if you were my girl?
I'd just put you over my knee and give you a good spanking.

Happy birthday to iconically eye-patched director Raoul Walsh
who was born 137 years ago today! Fassbinder was a big fan!

Walsh was a wild man from what I've read but like Michael Curtiz could handle any genre handed to him and 9 times out of 10 make a memorable film (to be fair in the sausage grinder that was the studio system some scripts couldn't be saved no matter the director and cast's skill level).

Love Gentleman Jim! Errol is at his most handsome, and without that pencil thin mustache they all loved so much in the 40's (though both he and Gable were able to carry it off, he just looked better without it), and throwing off the movie star charisma like a thousand watt lightbulb. Also adore Alexis Smith, a very fine actress usually wasted in decorative roles.
