Glover the Lover

I haven't seen any of it myself yet but I've only heard mixed-to-bad things about the Mr. and Mrs Smith series that's hitting Amazon today... and yet, as seen in my tweet down below, I kind of don't care when they've got Donald Glover looking like that on it. I'm easy like that! Plus Maya Erskine of PEN15 fame??? Yeah there's no way in hell I'm not watching this show. Then you keep glancing down the cast list -- Alexander Skarsgård! Paul Dano! Wagner Moura! Ron Perlman! John Turturro! Parker f'ing Posey! Does it even matter if the show is good when it's got this cast? (Cut to me, very sad, in about twelve hours.) Anyway no matter what this show's existence reminded me of that time Donald strutted around the streets of Manhattan in the sluttiest short-shorts outfit imaginable and for that we all (i.e. me) win.

"If you’re in the mood to watch badass spies pulling off risky missions with precision and looking impossibly sexy while doing it, you’ll probably be disappointed by the inelegant brute-force tactics of the new Smiths. This is not your father’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith. It’s darker, messier, and far more 'relatable.' Enjoying the show might depend on your willingness to just roll with it." (Vulture)

Sounds good to me

Alas, Skarsgard is only briefly in the 1st episode. Glover tries his best to be charming. But I found both Glover and Erskine to be too indifferent to be likable. If their characters don’t value life, should we care whether they live or die?

Halfway through it. It's good.

It's good, they have chemistry and are very likeable.

If you like Glover, you’ll like it. I binged the whole first season in one sitting, and I liked it more while than after watching. Cameos and guest stars are really fun. Humor is really dry.

Okay update - I only had time to watch the premiere but I liked it! Found it funny (I love Maya so much) and charming and DG is so sexy I wanted to lick my screen. I will very clearly watch the whole thing.

Ridiculous side note but: I have rarely seen an episode of tv or a film that so mangled geography that that it took me out of the plot. The premiere "caper" has them eating in a restaurant in midtown Manhattan, walk out the door into Fort Green Brooklyn, walk down into the Union Square (manhattan) subway, to go a the West Village theater, and walk out of theater into Chinatown. I got dizzy. But yes, they are both very charming. And I may need medication.
