RIP Tina Turner

Two obits in one day here at MNPP is too many already, but having to say that Tina Turner is dead -- that's a hefty bag of bullshit right there. Tina was one of the first stars I knew anything about in this world because inexplicably my father was a huge fan of hers. And I only say that was "inexplicable" because my father is a racist and a wife-abuser -- there was nothing inexplicable about loving Tina; that was easy. And so I did, for my entire life. There was nobody like her and there never will be anybody like her again. Long live the Queen of Rock and Roll. Here is one of my favorite things she ever did, in Ken Russell's film Tommy:

Yes, this one hits you in the balls.

I remember being in the military-Air Force-and being stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, and being in the day room and Tina came on with "What's Love Got To Do With It." The room lit up. Going to the gay clubs and this was the national anthem. We loved Tina!!

PS-Did your father know mine? Did Dad stop by our house for a game or two of Pinocle? Birds of a feather flock together.

Her passing is truly a loss to the world of music and though not unexpected since she announced some time ago that she was seriously ill still shocking.

She was always so vibrant. She had a big life, hellish for the first part but apparently pretty happy once she was shorn of Ike, and she contributed so much.

Tina Turner -- I love her so much. Loved her in Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. Love that song We Don't Need Another Hero. But my favorite is Better Be Good to Me. So many great songs. Her strong spirit lives on!

What a sad, sad day -- but at least we have her truly amazing work to always cherish! In the totally bonkers adaptation of Tommy, her "Acid Queen" was the highlight amongst a plethora of epic cameos; and she's ruined all other performances of the song for me!
