Everything You Ever Need To Know About Life...

... you can learn from:

R: So much for dreaming. You can't be whatever you want. All I'll ever be is a slow, pale, hunched-over, dead-eyed zombie. What did I think was gonna happen? That she'd actually want to stay with me? It's hopeless. This is what I get for wanting more. I should just be happy with what I had. Things don't change. I need to accept that. It's easier not to feel. Then I wouldn't have to feel like this.

A happy 10 to Jonathan Levine's delightful zom-rom-com Warm Bodies today. I would love to say that this movie is underrated but that would probably make of a me a hypocrite because I haven't seen it myself since it came out ten years ago -- if I wanted to do something about its underrated nature I should probably fix that. Maybe that is what I am doing right now? Yeah let's go with that. Let's all watch Warm Bodies asap (it's streaming on Peacock right now) and reassess its place in the canon. It pointed toward better things for Nicky Hoult anyway -- he was in a little bit of a shit period in 2013 (also starring in the abysmal Jack the Giant Slayer movie that same year) but right around the corner was Mad Max: Fury Road and then The Favourite and voila, he's had quite the little career, thank goodness. Since we very much like staring at him.

I just watched The Menu, which I liked a lot more than I thought I would, ending aside. He was excellent as usual. I'd like to see him with Anya Taylor-Joy again, in a thriller or something fun. They had good chemistry.

It was one of those good genre mashups that, while not reinventing either the zombie film or the rom com, brought out the best aspects of each in a fresh way.

My only complaint about Hoult's career lately is that he seems to only play blowhards, which he is great at, but it would be nice to see some range.
