This will clearly date me but y'all know I ain't a spring-chicken -- the first cassette tape I ever owned was Whitney Houston's single of "Greatest Love of All." It had her famous rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" on its flip-side! Those were the days. Taking it out and flipping over a cassette tape so you could listen to one song, then again for another, then again for the first, forever and ever. God life was so simple in the 80s. Anyway Whitney was my favorite as a wee gayling, my personal pop diva, I adored her and I continue to adore her today even if 1) as I grew older I grew away from her sort of pop-music and 2) I get incredibly sad now when I think about how her life ended. So needless to say I'm willing to overlook the spot on the poster for her biopic where it says "From the writer of Bohemian Rhapsody" (god why would you advertise that???) and just be excited about the movie; especially by the fact that this was directed by Kasi Lemmons, of Eve's Bayou fame. (Also as an actress of Silence of the Lambs and Candyman fame, the horror queen). I really want and hope that this is good! Whitney damn deserves it. Here's the trailer:
I Wanna Dance With Somebody is out on December 23rd.
