The Final Vision

Don't worry, I am not going to spoil WandaVision! Except for the sight of Paul Bettany in that turtleneck. (Anybody else discover they have a thing for Vision thanks to this show?) Anyway I already said this on Twitter this morning, but it bears repeating. This here is just an open post for those of y'all who've watched today's episode already, like me -- I got up early and watched it before I left for work, lest I be spoiled, because that is apparently life in 2021 -- and would like to say how you liked the episode and the season in the comments! I personally am happy. And I'll be happy to say more if anybody asks for more in the comments.

I just didn't get it . . . From the beginning. Marvel's vision' of The Dick Van Dyke Show. Not for me, thanks. I'll wait for that Bucky and the Birdman Show. And I can watch it with the sound off. Plot? Don't care. Just wanna see me some Sebastian Stan!! Swoon . . .

I gave up on marvel. The ads make this show look cute I admit but I can’t handle marvels bland world domination any longer. Of all the marvel movies I think I liked maybe two. Sort of. Just not me.

I watched the first episode, scratched my head, and moved on to other shows. It’s not for me.

Just read everyone else’s comments. Haha. Well, it’s not for any of us apparently.

I have seen maybe one Marvel movie before, but I have Disney+ and gave this a go. Before I knew it, I was hooked and I didn’t find it difficult to follow, even though I had no real background story for some plot points. It was still exciting, initially a little weird and bonkers, and fun. Also, yeah, had me swooning for Paul a few times and then of course Kathryn Hahn was a delight!

I was blown away by how incredibly good this series was. The writing was so much better than almost anything I've ever seen on TV, and both Bettany and Olsen deserve nominations at least. Mostly, it just ambushed me, because the last place I ever expected to see such profound moments was in a TV show based on a films series based on a comic book, starring the sister of the Olsen Twins of all people, and run by Disney to boot! But honestly, I was more moved several scenes in tonight's episode and in last week's episode than anything I've ever seen on TV.

Mark my words: Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany are both going to get Oscars some day.

Agreed with DesertJoe above. I started watching the first episode and after 10 minutes was like "This is NOT Marvel. How stupid" and turned it off. After prompting by a couple of my comic book nerd friends to hang in there and give it another shot, I kept at it. By episode 3 I realized this was turning out to be a great show and very much Marvel (complete with the added material at the end of the credits). Judging from many of the comments in this thread, Marvel is not to everyone's taste, and if you've not seen the Avengers films (Particularly Age of Ultron & Endgame) then it might be a bit "huh???" But if, like me, you love that whole universe and how they tie all these various characters and stories together, WandaVision is magic.

Agreed that this is a great blend of Marvel silliness and an actually creative, engaging, and emotional narratives that were both dark and fun. If you like all of those things, it's pretty perfect. But if you're looking for one but not the other, I can see how it would disappoint, especially with only the first and second episodes before the larger narrative really kicks in.

My whole problem with the marvel and dc films is that they are designed for straight white men. The films often have the feel of football games and football commercials. Xenophobia, homophobia, racism, sexism are all built into their dna. Sure there are some exceptions. Black Panther and Wonder Woman were okay, but they were both appropriating into that model. The most courageous maneuver of any of them was in the casting of a woman as Captain Marvel. That was a true violation of the comic world dna, and that is why it confused many people. But none of these movies are worth my time. After seeing a half a dozen or so of them, I’m done.

Wow, such division in the comment ranks!

I personally loved it, as a comic geek who has been reading comics since the early 70s and nearly got into the industry myself.

At first many comics fans thought it was going to be a melding of Wanda's own mental health issues from the comics (it was, but MCU style) and Vision's own dark, suburbia-based miniseries (it was, sorta, but sans all the other synthezoid family) but it immediately became its own thing. It was intentionally different with the genre mashing, but I think some non-comics/non-MCU-fan viewers might have been drawn in for the cutesy sitcom references but got confused by its reversion to MCU form by the end of it. But it's Marvel, that was expected.

I never knew Paul Bettany was so adorbs, but now I do. His turn on "Uncle Frank" was really great, but I think he ran the gamut of styles on WandaVision SO charmingly, it was revelation: his take on the classic goofy sitcom husband just cemented a heretofore unknown comedic skill. I look forward to all the work he's going to get in the future!

Not a big Marvel fan, only saw the first Avengers movie, and yet I really loved this show. Sure, took me a while to figure it out, but everything was just so well done that I was hooked. And Kathryn Hahn! Love her! Always a delight.
